Seollal and Ceramics

If you happen to be in Seoul during one of the national holidays, the Global Culture Center in Myeongdong organizes various events for foreigners to experience traditional Korean culture. So last Wednesday, Anette, Yi and me had the opportunity to try making New Year soaps. The girls chose to make a lucky money bag and I went for rice cakes (white, pink and mint green? Easy choice!). It wasn't as easy as I expected, because the soap-clay had to have just the right amount of water in it - too much or too little, and it was a disaster. Not to mention my white dumpling got contaminated by brown clay and looked very moldy. On the other hand, Anette made a textbook-like perfect bag.

Then on Thursday, we got an unexpected invitation to visit one of our colleagues and her family. They completed all of the family events in the morning and invited us for a yummy lunch (somewhere halfway through the plates we forgot to keep taking photos).

Then we got to see her father's studio, as he's a famous ceramics artist, and the whole family is involved in the business. I'm not sure if it would be OK to show you the pieces he is working on right now,  so here's Yi and their cute dog instead.

Green tea served in hand-made porcelain...

 Hanok house near the studio.

Ceramics exhibition - since Icheon, where they live, is very focused on this art.

Chicken for dinner - I would have been alright with just the fries, they were the yummiest fries I've ever tried!

Yours truly

    1. =D V Praze je několik korejských supermarketů, kde se dají celkem za rozumnou cenu sehnat skoro všechny potřebné suroviny a dobré domácí kimči. ;)
