DIY: Cheapo Solutions for Bathroom (Upcycle Supermarket Waste)

Here is the last bunch for cheapo storage tips - this time for the bathroom. Our bathroom is super tiny, with the toilet, sink and shower cramped on about 2 metres square. The only storage space provided is a little cupboard-like thing which is above the toilet and contains the water boiler. That's where I store a stash of toilet paper, clothes washing liquid and shampoos/shower gels for the time when I run out of those I'm using currently. However, for the rest of things, there's no place to put them, yet storage solutions for bathrooms tend to be really expensive. But if you're in a DIY mood, you can make everything for a couple of cents from boxes, with just scissors, string, aluminium foil and double sided tape.

My first creation is located next to the sink and holds my toothpaste, facial cleansers etc. Not the toothbrush, I actually keep it in the room, as the toilet is really close to the sink >.< I made it from a paper cardboard box I snatched in the supermarket (in general they don't mind if you take empty boxes as they throw them out anyway). I decorated it with wrapping paper (no glue, so double sided tape did the job), punched holes in the corners, used double sided tape to attach two sides with the sink and wall and then used a string tied through the holes to attach it to one of the mirror holding hooks. Since the stuff I put there is wet, I lined the insides of the box with aluminium foil.

My second creation is for storing shower stuff. I used the same string which I threaded through holes in a plastic fruit punnet and to prevent the thing from flipping over, I punched holes, threaded wire coming from various sources through them and used it to secure the string. You could make it a lot nicer by painting it with water-resistant colours, but I can't be bothered for 5 months.

Lastly, as the water-going-out thing in the shower has nothing to protect it form getting stuffed by hair and soap remnants, I made one by cutting a square from another punnet and cutting holes in it. Works perfectly well.

Yours truly
Vita

    1. Thank you! I haven't thought about it for common bathrooms, maybe because the showers in my French dorm were so awful I kept everything in the changing room outside since I couldn't imagine putting anything inside *shivers*.
