Turquoise Necklace Tutorial

I’ve used up all remnants of my poetic craving in the introductory article, therefore I’m sorry there’s no proper introduction this time as I’m gonna jump straight to the practical stuff. Obviously I’m about as romantic as a block of agar.

Material:
A piece of felt
A big metal ornament - preferably one you can actually sew on
Big flat-back stones (in my case 12 - http://fullmoon07xxx.ocnk.net/)
Small flat-back stones (in my case 6 - the same place)
Special fabric glue, but anything strong and see-through will do if you don’t have fabric one
Some strong see through glue
Ca. 40 cm of thicker chain
Ca. 30 cm of thinner chain with bigger links
3 bigger jump rings
38 smaller jump rings
22 eye pins
20 bigger beads (more or less round)
22 tear-shaped beads
A small back or seed beads
A pair of pincers
Thicker see through thread that doesn’t snap easily
Needles - a normal one and an ultra thin one for beads

(Don’t take the exact numbers too seriously)

Time:
Half a day at most

Difficulty:
2

How to:
1) Sew the ornament on a piece of felt.

2) Glue the stones around, don’t glue the ones that come on top of the ornament yet - they’d fall of while you sew on the rest as mine did.

3) Sew the first row of beads as closely to the ornament as you can. Sew them on one by one, I hope you can see the mechanism on the ugly drawing I made. The needle goes from the wrong side to the right one, through a new bead, down again right behind it, then up again next to the first puncture, again through the bead, but this time you’ll add a new bead, go down behind it, then go up in front of it and through and so on. In the end, the thread will go twice through each bead.

4) Carefully cut off excess felt. Stay as close to the line of beads as possible without damaging the thread.

5) Sew on the second row. This is the step I can’t recall at all. I tried to draw something, but I’m sorry, you’ll just have to figure it out somehow (in the end that’s what I did as well XD). This time, you don’t use the felt, you just attach the new beads one by one to the previous row.

6) Now go through the outer row of beads twice or three times (I mean, to make “circles”). It will pull the beads together and therefore cover the edges of the felt and also add something like a 3D effect to the necklace.

7) Prepare the fringe: cut the thinner chain into 4 times the following lengths: 5 links, 6 links, 7 links and once 8 links. Also put an eye pin and an tear bead on a small jump ring and close the ring so that its ends are inside the tear bead.

8) Cut off the excess pin and create a loop, which will go through the last lick of the chain piece. Line the fringe like this: 5 -> 8 -> 5.

9) The worst step ever - sew the fringe on. Secure the thread, go through a bead and the chain, and again, secure the thread (do through the felt about 3 times) and once more through the bead and the link of the chain, secure and with several stitches through the felt, move on to the next location. Be careful - the link you’re sewing on has to have the two ends on the other side than the one you’re attaching to the bead - otherwise the thread might slip through the opening between the ends. If you’re using a chain that has the ends melted together, it doesn’t matter.

10) Use the same technique you used to make the fringe for making a “chain” - you can see it on the photo. Then cut a piece of the thin chain with the same length.

11) Put the last link of the thick chain and the “fringe” chain an the thin chain on two smaller jump rings at once-  it will make it less likely to slip.

12) Somehow “thread” the end of the big jump ring around the two rows of the beads without piercing the felt. It works. Then use another pair of small jump rings to attach the “fringe” chain and the thin chain to it.

13) Put a big jump ring on about 1/3 of the thick chain - this will allow you to shorten the chain if you want the necklace to be shorter. Big jump rings are easy to open and close with your hands only, even if you don’t have any pincers.

And you’re done - you can start to save up for an ancient palace.

kousek filcu
velký ozdobný ornament, který bude možné našít (přinejhorším něco, co půjde nalepit, ale dejte přednost něčemu, co je skutečně možné přichytit nití)
velké kamínky (v mém případě 12 - http://fullmoon07xxx.ocnk.net/)
malé kamínky (v mém případě 6 - tamtéž)
speciální lepidlo na lepení kamínků na látku ((poslouží i jiné super pevné a průhledné)
nějaké silné průhledné lepidlo na všechno
cca 40 cm silnějšího řetízku
cca 30 cm tenkého řetízku s většími oky
3 větší kroužky
38 menších kroužků
22 ketlovacích jehel se smyčkou na konci
20 větších korálků zhruba kulovitého tvaru
22 korálků slzičkovitého tvaru
balíček rokajových korálků
štípačky
silnější průhledná nit, co se snadno netrhá
nůžky
normální jehla a tenká korálková jehla

(Ty počty berte s rezervou)

Čas:
půl dne

Obtížnost:
2

Postup:

13) Někam cca do 1/3 silnějšího řetězu umístěte větší kroužek - díky němu můžete náhrdelník zkracovat (rozevřete a zavřete ho i prsty bez kleští).

A je to - můžete začít zjišťovat ceny antických paláců.

S láskou
Víta

  1. Krásný. Já bych u tohle ztrácela nervy, ikdyž jsem zvyklá dělat ruční práce.

  2. Hi! How long did you took to make this one? It looks so easy and the result is so neat! I love it! Do you buy your pieces online or in stores? (:

    1. Hi! Well, I was sick, so it probably took a lot longer than it would if I didn't make it in bed and with feeling bad, so I think one afternoon is plenty enough. Since there are only two rows of beads, it's done quite quickly.
