Eating In & Eating Out

Eating out tends to be veeery expensive in Dublin (Domino's pizza? 22 E. Restaurant menu? 25 E), but on special occasions we still treat ourselves to a meal out, though we always share to cut down calories and costs. On the other hand, cooking at home, especially if you buy your ingredients wisely and carefully, is very cheap while you still get to explore new tastes. Hence half of this post is eating out and the other is eating in.

Eddie Rocket's
I'd been eyeing this American style burger restaurant ever since we moved to Dublin, and in the end I sneakily planned our visit there for one of our montharies. It has super cute interior, the service is really nice, shakes heavenly, burgers average and fries just fine. We shared 3 mini burgers (and we persuaded the waiter to give us 3 different flavors) with fries and I ordered also one of their special shakes with peanut butter. I'm not sure if it was only the size of the burgers, but they weren't that great - the flavors were nice, but the meat was not very juicy and the texture of the bun was not right either. The fries were quite normal. But the shake was amazing. Frankly, you can just have the shake and you'll feel as if you just ate 3 meals. It is very creamy (you can tell it's "homemade", not like the stuff they have in McDo0 and mine had not just peanut butter, but also peanut butter-filled chocolate cookies. And it was served with whipped cream and one whole cookie.

Since our neighbors, who are extremely lovely and friendly people, invited us over for a cake, my payback was an Asian lunch with Chinese chicken, Japanese curry rice, treasure rice porridge, noodles, barbecue pork chops, Korean tteokbokki and Thai-like chilli shrimp.

Yamamori
Yamamori has at least 3 restaurants in Dublin city center, we went to the one in Bachelor's Walk with the girls. Me and Lizzie shared a bento (10 E) and the other girls got ramen and sushi. We also got free green tea. The food was really nice and since we shared, it was also affordable. The restaurant has a very nice decor and atmosphere, it's quite modern (in Rathmines/Camden Street, there is one that looks like a traditional izakaya).

Pho Ta
Our Vietnamese classmate and friend discovered this authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Temple bar. We got Pho (9 E) and shared it with Gerald and we also tried coffee yogurt as a dessert. It is very nice and the food is super delicious.

Marlborough Street DIT campus has a culinary outlet (since there are many kitchen classes where material is paid by the university, it gets the money back by selling the students' products for an outlet price). These were all 50c each, big cakes are 3 and bread 1 E.

Lunch boxes
Half burger with pineapple, parsnip fires (yuck, this recipe is not going to my favorites), asparagus and Korean side dishes (garlic stems ad eggplant).

Fried broccoli in Korean frying mix, fish, garlic, eggplant, kimchi, strawberry.

Turkey breast with pineapple and cheese, baked potato fries (by hat I mean I actually cut the potatoes myself and then baked them - so 0% fat) and kiwi.

Soup with Ddukbokki and bulgogi pork.

Yours truly
Vita

  2. yum that coffee yogurt sounds great! I also bring food from home to have lunch at university too - it's way cheaper and I can eat healthy. I loved your lunchboxes, I love how organized they are and how pretty they look!

    1. Not always, but I don't take pics of those that look like a hot mess =D. And yeah, probably the only place where the uni cafeteria was about the same price as cooking your own food was Todai...

    1. It's actually quite popular in mid-range restaurants in CR (well, minus the kiwi)! Cooking can be also tiring, but most of the time it's fun once you master a couple of basic recipes. :)

  5. Those student-made pastries are beautiful enough to warrant their own blog post. You are quite the handy cook, and I can only dream of being treated to your dinners. I find that burger joints even here in the US aren't all that appealing, but I can get behind a good shake or two.
